Mongul put Superman to War World as a gladiator to fight against Draaga. He was, at first, unwilling to fight, but managed to defeat him nonetheless. Despite Mongul's orders, Superman spared Draaga's life. Draaga did not take kindly to this humiliation, carving an "S" in his chest and swearing revenge againt the Man of Steel.
Mongul threatened with the destruction of Draaga's homeworld. Superman had, however, made sure the planet would not be destroyed, and "volunteered" to die to save the planet. Upon learning of this feat, Draaga fought with Mongul, and emerged victorious. Superman offered him the crown of War World, and the people accepted him as their ruler.
[edit] Powers & Abilities
Draaga possessed incredible amounts of superhuman strength enabling him to battle and hold his own for a long period of time against Superman. Draaga also had superhuman durability (although no much for the Man Of Steel). He was also an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant as he was able to defeat Mongul in battle rivaling the tyrants fighting skills and strength.
