Frieda was a persuasive and somewhat commanding girl, who worked for several committees and the school paper. She was best friends with Daisy Watkins, and later also with Shenice Vale. In his first years at Dakota Union High, Virgil had a crush on Frieda, but she was out of his reach. Though his acquaintance with Daisy did get Frieda closer to him, he was happy with Daisy.

In the Milestone comics, Frieda Goren was a love interest of Virgil. She was the first to know of his secret identity.
