Hephaestus was the Greek God of craftsmanship, particularly blacksmithing. He was responsible for the armor of Wonder Woman as well as the Annihilator commissioned by Ares.
According to Hephaestus, he always includes some sort of weakness in everything he makes, so that no one or thing can get too powerful. The Annihilator's is that it shuts down if no one is fighting or expressing any anger. Even Wonder Woman's armor is stated to have a weakness, though it is never revealed.

Hephaestus mentions to Diana that she's "practically family". In fact, in Greek mythology Hippolyta was the daughter of Hephaestus's brother Ares. This would make Hephaestus, Diana's great-uncle and if Hades (Hephaestus's uncle) is truly her father then Hephaestus would also be her first cousin.
