The Secret Society was a supervillain team formed to destroy the Justice League.

History Edit

Gorilla Grodd formed the Secret Society with Giganta (who was fiercely loyal to Grodd), Shade (who was offered the chance by Grodd to be a master criminal), Sinestro (who has sworn blood oath against all Green Lanterns), Killer Frost (who is there simply to kill), and Parasite (who wanted revenge against Superman). In its formation, Grodd took pains to encourage a more cohesive organization in order to avoid the infighting of Lex Luthor's Injustice Gang. His first plan was to rescue Clayface from Morgan Edge's mansion where Killer Frost froze Morgan. Grodd tells Clayface that he'll help him find a way to return Clayface to his true identity of Matt Hagen and still retain his powers after they defeat the Justice League. The Secret Society defeated the League the first time, thanks to Grodd as he secretly utilizes his new mental powers. Later it's revealed that Grodd has watched the League via secret cameras for weeks, and manipulated their feelings until the Leaguers start lashing out at each other and end up walking away from the team after the first Battle.

Having separated them, The Society successfully captures each Leaguer and invades a football halftime show to do away with the heroes publicly. This is foiled by J'onn J'onzz, who has tricked the villains by pretending to be Clayface and frees his teammates. The Society battles the League one last time, but fail to beat them and are subsequently defeated.
