[edit] Background Information
Rivers emigrated to America from Cuba at the age of two. He attended Florida State University on a football scholarship, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from its School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, He was an offensive lineman for the Miami Dolphins football team from 1978-1979.
In his youth, both Rivers and his mother were victims of his abusive father. He is now a prominent author, activist, and public speaker against child abuse and domestic violence.
A former football player, who stands six foot two, he is similar in height and build to his most prominent character in the DCAU, Hro Talak.
According to the producers' commentary for the Justice League episode "Starcrossed, Part III", he was uncomfortable doing voicework for the scenes in which Talak is beating up Hawkgirl (because of his strong personal feelings against domestic violence).
